Delta Air Lines launches its new Atlanta-Mumbai route today, another step in its international growth. Delta is moving the Mumbai route from New York to Atlanta and expects its hub at Hartsfield-Jackson will allow it to connect more U.S. passengers to one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
Delta will fly the route with its new Boeing 777-200 Long Range aircraft, which makes the flight possible.
Delta’s 777-200LRs can fly up to 10,160 miles.
The Atlanta-Mumbai flight is the longest nonstop flight operated by a U.S. carrier.
New York to Mumbai route: 8,510 miles
Approximate time: 17 hours and 55 minutes (16 hours and 35 minutes in the return trip.)
Because of the length of the flight, it will have four pilots. The pilots have a crew rest area in the ceiling of the aircraft. Flight attendants also have a rest cabin in the ceiling in back of the aircraft.
Atlanta-Mumbai will be Delta’s first flight in Atlanta to offer a global product, including 180-degree, fully horizontal personal sleeper suites in BusinessElite®, more comfortable seats in coach, and Delta’s on-demand entertainment system on larger screens at every seat.
